The winner of the People’s Choice Best New Food for 2019 has finally been announced.
Out
of 57 new foods to make the list this year, eight were chosen to be
tasted by a panel of celebrity judges. The Top 8 was whittled down to
two on July 16. Then, from July 16-19, the people voted for the third on
the Iowa State Fair app.
Finalists included the Georgie’s Roast with the Most Wrap from G Mig’s Wrap Stand and The Chief from The Rib Shack. The third finalist, selected by the public, was Chicken Street Tacos from Chicken City.
WINNER
Located at G Mig’s Wrap Stand, this new food is a
cheddar tortilla wrap with tender beef pot roast, a white rice mixture
containing Chorizo sausage crumbles, roasted green chilies, cheddar-Jack
cheese, candy corn salsa, crispy corn tortilla crumbles and a sour
cream drizzle, served with a zesty salsa verde sauce on the side ($10).
Gluten-free wraps are available at an additional cost.
The wrap was created by George Migliero, owner of the stand and a restaurant in West Des Moines.
